Good for money making

I don't know why there aren't more topics for alchemy but i'll hopefully start one to get some buzz generated..... anyways for alchemy are there any good potions to level up to make money on, i know i can sell the basic red pot stacks of 30 for about 1000 gold which isn't that bad but it is very time consuming to get all the mat's when i can get just as much gold in half the amount of time questing and or farming off of mobs.... so basically im asking is it good to make money cause that is the main reason I am going to be using alchemy, that and for the buff's and pots I get obviously

Personally, I don't think alchemy is very good for making money. I'm a 23 Alchemist, and do a lot of gathering. *A lot* of gathering.

The best I've ever been offered for one of my potions is 4k. To make that one pot takes 60 Bitterleaves, 24 Iron ores, 1 Combine rune, and a bundle of Bison Grass. (5 Sap, 2 Nuggets). The pots are made in multiples of two, yes. However, you have to get at least that many materials to even make it. That is...a LOT of gathering. I think that there are much more viable methods of making money.

I have a lot of potions in the AH, but I've only ever had potions there sell twice. Perhaps I'm overpricing, but you tell me.

Currently in the AH, I have HP potions in stacks of 10. They heal for 600 health. I started bidding for them at 1000, and buyout at 1500. Am I being unreasonable in asking a minimum of 100 per potion, when NPCs can ask roughly the same price for their own potions?

Also, Alchemy requires Combine runes after level 11. These runes do not drop often at all, and getting them is a pain, so...

Basically, Alchemy requires a huge time investment, for what seems like very little gain. I'm enjoying it though, just because it is something different to do, and I like giving my potions away to people who will enjoy them. Some of the pots are very beneficial. The best potion I can make at the moment gives +10% to all stats, for 10 minutes. (That's the one that requires the massive amount of materials I mentioned above).

that sound like and awesome potion, the actual problem its the market not meeting the real value of items, remember we are in a very recent open beta, and most people still dont know how to play, make yourself some advertisement and rise complex potions prices ( put the price yourself and make only on demand(after all what is abundant has to be cheap) ) after all people like you are the only way to get them.

The other part of the problem is that I'm not doing this to make money. I just find Alchemy fun. Combine that problem with the fact that Combine runes drop not often enough, and that the nice potions are low in level, means that making them results in a loss of experience for Alchemy which could have been gained by producing higher level potions. (Alchemy is 24, those potions require 19). Producing some potions doesn't even give me experience anymore.

So I'm having to choose leveling my Alchemy first, before taking requests from players to make a certain potion. Prices aren't going to start stabilizing until Combine runes can meet demand. If that can't happen, then prices are going to rise to the point that the equilibrium selling price doesn't satisfy the seller.

The alchemists on the server I play on, Osha, sell 30 salves for 30000.

Does anybody even buy those potions? That seems VERY overpriced. If people bought it at that price...well, I have 240 more salve...

I'm an Alchemist on Krynn(PvP), my potions never, ever sell, so I just hand them out to guildmates.

I'm at Lv.30 Alchemy right now, but back when I was making Salve and the 600 mana potions, I would put stacks of 30 of them up on the AH for 4.9k gold, and they wouldn't sell. Pretty ridiculous.

I can't even sell Witch's Brew (or whatever the casting speed increase one at Alchemy 27 is called) at 9k per 99. Speed potions don't look like they'll be selling, either.

Bottom line: If you're on Krynn, don't go Alchemy to make money. I feel like I've probably burned through about 600-700 Mountain Poplar, 1,000+ Wild berry, 1,000+ Bitterleaf, 1,500+ Moxa and probably 1,500+ Dusk Orchid before I'm done in Aslan, too.

For absolutely zero monetary return. I mean, I guess I could sell stacks of potions for 2k per stack, but at that price I'd rather just hand them out to my guildmates.

From what I see, absolutely none of the Crafting skills are useful in terms of making money. None of them. The time required to craft them, and the results that you get are unequal. Massive amounts of ingredients required, very little return (especially in the other crafts) makes for a very disappointing crafting system.

Crafting actual equipment is even worse. For the level you can make items, you can just get better equipment at NPCs. The only difference is that your items may one bonus, and maybe a rune slot or two. That's it. Not worth the time at all. They need to revamp the crafting system IMO.

Believe it or not they actually do sell at that price... 6 sets of 30 and 4 sets of 5 sold in history, since dec 28th. That's about 50/day on average, selling at 1k per bare minimum. You're just on the wrong server.

As for crafting equipment... if you haven't played around with the arcane transmutor then you probably have no clue what kind of magic you can work with a few rune slots on a blank item...
